Mass vs. Weight

While often used interchangeably in daily language, mass and weight are distinct scientific concepts. Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is constant regardless of location. Weight is the force of gravity acting on that mass. An object has the same mass on Earth as it does on the Moon, but its weight would be about one-sixth on the Moon due to the lower gravity.
